A doula offers emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum. Unlike a midwife, doulas don’t provide medical care or make clinical decisions. Think of your doula as your calm guide, your emotional anchor, or your birth sidekick while your midwife monitors your health and your baby’s.
We’ll have a no cost "get to know each other chat" either by phone or virtual. Ask me any questions to chat and we can see how we vibe. Birth is intimate. Your doula should feel like someone you can laugh with, cry with, and trust with your whole heart. It's worse to have support that doesn't "fit" with you than no doula support at all!
Yes! Whether you’re planning a home birth, a hospital birth, an epidural, a cesarean, or you’re not quite sure yet, I’ve got you. This is your birth, and I’ll support it wholeheartedly and without judgement.
Yes! I love being part of a collaborative care team. Whether it’s a midwife, OB, lactation consultant, or your best friend rubbing your back. I’ll work with them all to support you and your birth vision.
Absolutely. Lil’ Bean is an inclusive, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming space. All families, all identities. Everyone is welcome.
Not at all! A doula supports both you and your partner. It's important for your partner to feel included and involved. It's all hands on deck for you but doulas can provide much needed emotional support for partners too.
A birth doula provides comfort techniques like massage, breathing support, emotional reassurance, support with labour positions and helps advocate your birthing preferences, coffee/food runs for anyone needing, breaks or quick nap during some rest time (especially if it's a long one!), I can also take some tender pre-baby moment pics (with your permission!)
You betcha...Doulas help you understand your options and encourage self-advocacy. We can provide you with resources and evidence-based information beforehand for possible scenarios around your baby's birth but you make your own decisions. Doulas will make your choices heard or understood by staff.
Anytime you feel ready but the earlier the better! Many families book around the end of the first or start of the second trimester to ensure availability and get the most out of prenatal support.
If I’m sick or at another birth, I’ll call in one of my trusted backup doulas; someone warm, skilled, and fully briefed on your preferences. But I do everything I can to be there for you personally.
No worries! I’m in it with you. I may take short breaks if it’s a marathon birth (with your OK), but I return refreshed and ready. I pace myself so I can show up fully for you, for as long as it takes.
I am on-call for your birth and labour from the time you sign your contract with me!
That’s totally normal. We’ll explore your options together, talk through what’s important to you, and help you feel more confident navigating choices as they come.
Yep! My doula bag might include things like massage tools, essential oils, battery candles, honey sticks, hair ties, snacks, tissues, and water bottle refills. I also bring intuition, a calming presence, and the experience supporting birthing folks through every kind of moment.
Postpartum doulas offer support to families after birth with newborn care, feeding help, light chores, meal prep, sibling support, and emotional check-ins...a hug and ears to listen with a cup of tea . You and baby are in the spotlight of care but we are always there for your family too.
Sometimes. Check with your provider though. Some insurance plans or HSAs may reimburse for doula services.
Once the contract is signed, a 50% deposit is required to secure your spot. The remaining balance is due at 36 weeks gestation. Payment is accepted via e-transfer.
Prefer to pay in full up front for simplicity? That works too!
If finances are a concern, I’m happy to discuss flexible payment plans or a sliding scale. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. Everyone deserves support.
Start by sending an inquiry via the contact form or email. We’ll book a complimentary consultation to make sure we’re a good fit. If it’s a match, you’ll sign a contract, pay a deposit, and we’re off!
